Mountain State Steel Buildings was not inherited, handed down, or bought as an existing operation. We started with an idea, a willingness to learn every part of the work, and a genuine obsession with making steel buildings better to design, fabricate, quote, and build.
WE BUILT THE COMPANY BECAUSE WE LOVE THE WORK.
What started with firsthand experience buying and building aviation hangars grew into something much bigger. We saw how disconnected the typical process could be: one company selling the building, another handling engineering, someone else dealing with components, concrete, erection, revisions, and jobsite questions. Too much information was getting lost between people who were supposed to be working on the same project.
We believed we could build a company around a better way to do it. So we did.
There was no established family business waiting for us and no inherited customer list. Mountain State was built one project, one machine, one process, one customer, and one hard-earned lesson at a time. We are proud of that because building a company from nothing is difficult, and staying in it long enough to become good at the work is even harder.
WE LIKE SOLVING THE BUILDING BEFORE IT BECOMES A PROBLEM.
Layout, openings, clearances, accessories, constructability, sequencing and the details that affect cost all matter before steel reaches a jobsite. Design is one of the parts of the business we enjoy most.
WE ARE BUILDERS AND FABRICATORS, NOT JUST ORDER TAKERS.
We like making things. Steel, components, custom details, CNC work, fabrication and problem-solving are part of what drives the company. That hands-on background changes the way we look at drawings, pricing and field issues.
THE GOAL IS A BUILDABLE PROJECT, NOT JUST A SALE.
We want the quote, drawings, materials, concrete scope, erection plan and jobsite reality to line up. When something does not make sense, we would rather catch it early than pass it down the line.
WHAT MOUNTAIN STATE DOES TODAY
Today Mountain State supports red iron and cold-formed steel building projects through planning, design coordination, engineering coordination, building packages, components, fabrication, concrete coordination, erection, and broader construction services for qualifying projects.
We work on shops, agricultural buildings, commercial buildings, warehouses, aircraft hangars, mini storage, barndominiums and custom steel-building projects. Building packages can ship nationwide, while field services depend on project location and scope.
The company has grown, the equipment has grown, and the projects have grown, but the reason we do it has not changed: we genuinely like designing, fabricating and building things that work.
HOW WE WANT TO WORK
Clear scope. Clear communication. Real numbers when the information supports them. Unknowns clearly identified when they do not. We are constantly building better estimating, planning and project systems because we want customers and our own team working from the same information.
WHY THAT MATTERS
Steel buildings involve too many moving parts for vague handoffs. Openings affect framing. Location affects design criteria. Concrete depends on actual foundation information. Accessories and insulation change scope. A project goes better when those decisions are organized early.
